Valentine's Day...yuck! How dare we be pressured into showing someone we love them just because it's a specified date on the calendar? Who does this Hallmark company think it is? It's just an excuse to sell chocolate and roses, right?
Here's the thing. We live in a society of constant "doing." There's always somewhere to go, an email to write, a meeting to attend, dinner to cook, bills to pay, work to be done! We get so caught up in the everyday happenings that we often forget to just take the time to be fully present in the here and now, to take a breath and show gratitude simply just for being alive and having what (and who) we have in our lives. This is why I think we need Valentine's Day now more than ever. If we don't schedule an event into our lives then it isn't important, it never gets done, it gets put on the back-burner. So make love important. Make it the focal point of your day today. Tell your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, parent, child, friend, even a complete stranger, that you are grateful for their presence. Don't put your love's needs on the back-burner, show them that you appreciate for who they are and not what they do. Love them just for being.
Schedule love into your life today and every day. Happy Valentine's Day!
